  • Reason for Construction: The Eiffel Tower was constructed for the World's Fair to show that iron is lighter but stronger than stone
  • Construction start of January 26, 1887 & Duration: 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days-start to finish
  • Height: 324 meters tall, Tower Material: 9441 tons of wrought iron (puddle iron)
  • Weight of the Tower: 10,000 tons, with 7,300 tons being metal.
  • Approximate Number of Visitors Each Year: 6.8 million people
  • Amount of Paint Needed to Cover the Tower: 60 tons of paint and every seven year it will be repainted
  • Number of Deaths during Construction: 1 and Number of Workmen Involved in Construction: At least 50 engineers, 100 iron workers, and 120 construction workers.
  • Number of steps to the topmost third level platform: 1710 steps to the topmost third level
  • At the time of its completion, the tower stood as the tallest structure in the world. It has since been surpassed.
